Glossary

Short definitions for physical and tactical metrics used across the WC 2026 hub.

Physical

HSR (High-Speed Runs)

High-speed running efforts. In FIFA reports — count of runs in the high-speed band (roughly zones 4–5).

Zone 3

Medium speed zone (about 15–20 km/h). Captures working distance without top-end accelerations.

Zone 4

High speed zone (about 20–25 km/h). A key intensity marker for midfielders and wide players.

Zone 5

Sprint zone (about 25+ km/h). Short maximal accelerations and runs in behind.

Top speed

Peak instantaneous speed in a match (km/h). A single peak is not the same as workload volume.

TD / 90

Distance normalized to 90 minutes. Useful when comparing players with different minutes.

Tactical

Line break

A pass or action that breaks an opposition defensive line (between lines or in behind).

xG

Expected Goals — chance quality model. Compares the scoreline with the volume of threat created.

Phases of play

Share of time/actions across phases: in possession, transition, out of possession. Helps read match style.

Data

True minutes

Actual minutes on the pitch (including substitutions). This hub uses minutes from the FIFA PMSR physical dataset.

Percentile (P##)

Player rank among same-position peers (≥90 min). P90 means better than 90% of the cohort on that metric.

PMSR

Post Match Summary Report — official FIFA Training Centre PDF after each match (tactics + physical).
